Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board

The Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board (MVLWB) is created by the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act to deal with the entire Mackenzie Valley including the Gwich'in Settlement Area. The MVLWB will handle land use permits and water licences that are transboundary. An example would be a pipeline running between the Sahtu and Gwich'in areas. The Gwich'in Tribal Council will nominate at least one member to the new board.

The Gwich'in Land and Water Board will continue to issue permits and licences for activities within the Gwich’in Settlement Area.
