STRENGTHENING THE GWICH'IN NATION TO BUILD A BRIGHTER FUTURE

The GTC Beneficiary Services Department - Education & Training Programs are located in Fort McPherson and Inuvik. Staff administer the Aboriginal Human Resources Development Strategy Agreement (better known as ARHDA), the Aboriginal Skills & Employment Program (ASEP) plus offer financial assistance through the Gwich'in Education Foundation.

The Education & Training Committee - consisting of one representative from each of the four Gwich'in communities plus the Vice-President - provide direction through quarterly and as-needed meetings. They include:

Bursaries are available to all Gwich ’in Beneficiaries attending school on a full time basis for a period of two months or longer.

The amount of the bursary depends on:
- length of studies;
- year(s) of studies;
- academic standing during the last semester; and
- course load.

To be eligible, a student must be enrolled as a Participant (Beneficiary) under the Gwich ’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement, and submit:
- a GTC Application for Funding (with Career Objectives, full financial information from all sources and budget information);
- a letter of acceptance into a recognized post-secondary educational institute;
- a letter of funding from your sponsor(s); and
- a copy of your transcipts from your present or previous educational institute.

*Restrictions on type of studies apply.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Scholarships may be awarded to students who achieve an overall average of 80% in their program of studies for the year. To be eligible for a scholarship the student must submit an Application for Funding prior to the start of studies and meet the following criteria:

- Gwich ’in Beneficiary enrolled in the Gwich ’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement
- complete a full course load (5 course per semester)
- complete a full year of studies (8 months)
- submit original transcripts from educational institute attended
- complete an Application for Funding prior to the start of studies.
